What do Semaglutide and Tirzepatide do?

Semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy) and tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Mounjaro) are GLP-1 medications that help reduce weight in several ways:

• Help to reduce blood sugar levels and regulate insulin, allowing your body to process carbohydrates into energy rather than storing them as fat.

• Slow down how quickly the stomach digests your food. Because of this, semaglutide or tirzepatide injections make you feel full for longer. This reduces the amount of times you eat per day, which is extremely effective for weight loss.

• They also help you to reduce your cravings and appetite.

• Tirzepatide works a bit harder than semaglutide and has shown more pronounced weight loss. Tirzepatide also targets fat better.

Do these medications cause side effects?

Some possible side effects include heartburn, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and stomach pain. Most people have mild symptoms with improvement in side effects after continued dosing. To help reduce side effects, you should eat a diet high in fiber including fruits and vegetables. Smaller, high-protein meals aid in easier digestion which also reduce side effects. Additionally, you should avoid alcohol and high-fat foods.
